Turn any song, voice memo or sound effect into a ringtone in your browser. Drop in an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC or AAC file, and the tool loads it on a zoomable waveform with a 30-second selection and a 2-second fade-out already in place. Move the selection to the part you want, press play to check it, and export as M4R for iPhone or MP3 for Android. Trimming, fades and MP3 encoding happen on your device; only the M4R conversion sends the already-cut 30-second clip to our server, never the whole file.

How to make an iPhone ringtone from an MP3

1. Upload the audio — Click the upload area or drag the file in. MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC and AAC all work.
2. Pick the 30 seconds — The selection starts at the beginning of the track. Drag it to the chorus or the hook, or type an exact start time. Zoom in with the controls, Ctrl/Cmd+scroll or a pinch gesture.
3. Preview — The green play button plays exactly what will be exported, fade-out included.
4. Export M4R — The iPhone format is preselected. Click Trim Audio and download the .m4r file.
5. Install it on the iPhone — Without a computer: open the file in the free GarageBand app, drag it onto a track and share the project as a ringtone. With a Mac: connect the phone, open Finder, select the iPhone and drag the .m4r onto it. With Windows: use iTunes for Windows or the Apple Devices app and drop the file into the Tones list. The new tone shows under Settings, Sounds & Haptics, Ringtone.

How to make an Android ringtone

1. Upload the file and place the 30-second selection where you want it.
2. Click the Android (MP3 · 30s) preset, or choose MP3 as the output format. 192 kbps is plenty for a phone speaker; 320 kbps is available if you prefer.
3. Export and download the MP3.
4. Copy it into the phone's Ringtones folder, or open Settings, Sound, Phone ringtone and add the file from storage. Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi and Motorola all have an "add from device" option there.

Why iPhone ringtones must be M4R

An M4R file is AAC audio in an MP4 container with the .m4r extension. iOS uses that extension to sort a file into the ringtone list rather than the music library, so renaming an MP3 does not work: the audio inside has to be AAC. Ringtones can be at most 40 seconds long and text tones 30 seconds, which is why the preset cuts 30 seconds. Android is far less picky: it plays MP3 ringtones directly and has no length limit.

Tips for a ringtone that sounds good

• Start on a beat, not a breath. Zoom in and place the start point right before a strong hit. A ringtone that opens mid-note sounds like an error.
• Keep the fade-out. Unanswered calls play the file to the end and loop it. A two-second fade hides the loop point.
• Pick a loud section. Phone speakers are small. Vocals and lead instruments cut through; ambient intros do not.
• Use the original file. A ringtone cut from a good MP3 or a lossless file sounds better than one cut from a low-bitrate copy. The tool cannot add quality that is not in the source.
• Make a text tone too. Select 3–5 seconds instead of 30, export M4R, and install it the same way. It appears under Text Tone.

MP3, WAV, OGG (Vorbis), M4A (AAC), FLAC and AAC, plus anything else your browser can decode. Output is M4R (iPhone), MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps (Android and everything else) or WAV if you want a lossless clip for further editing.
